Kim was a valued member of the documentation team. In her honor, the WordPress Foundation, with the help of WordPress Goddess Jen Mylo, has set up a traveling scholarship for one woman each year to attend the replacement for WordCamp San Francisco, with hopes to encourage participation in WordPress contribution by women. You can read full details about it in Jeff Chandler’s WPTavern article about it at the below link:
Memorial Fundraiser for Kim Parsell
A fundraiser has been set up by Drew Jaynes for Kim Parsell, benefitting the Blue Ridge Grange in Newcomerstown, Ohio. Instructions on how to donate on the YouCaring.com page below:

Throughout her life, Kim Parsell touched many lives.
Kim was affectionately referred to in the WordPress community as #wpmom, a moniker she wholeheartedly embraced. She was the shining light of the community, always ready to jump in and help or offer a kind word of encouragement to anyone.
She was famous for her hugs, and for her willingness to devote her free time to improving many areas of the WordPress open source project including documentation, support, community, meetups, WordCamps, and many others. She was a celebrated photographer, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, Kim’s family has asked that memorial donations be made in Kim’s name to the Blue Ridge Grange, located in Newcomerstown, OH. All collected donations will directly benefit the grange.
In a way, it’s fitting that a grange would be the benefactor for donations in Kim’s name, because just as she spent her last years promoting the growth of her online communities, the grange primarily works to promote its offline ones.
If you’d prefer to send a donation directly, checks can be mailed to the following address:
Blue Ridge Grange, c/o Janice Braninger, Secretary,
21858 T.R. 257, Newcomerstown, Ohio 43832
